Being a gun nut, I’ve thought on this. Take something simple like an AR-15 back. They wouldn’t have had the metallurgy 150 years back to duplicate it. Not the barrel or bolt anyway. Springs? Certainly not the propellant. What about the precision needed for the shells alone? And forget rifling a barrel!

I’ve got a couple of 130-yo, double-barrelled shotguns. One is Damascus steel, the other is Belgian laminated steel. Sounds fancy, may rapidly disassemble with modern shot.

Bet the mechanisms and overall design would be a mind blower! Mankind, being mankind, would certainly figure a way to get some kinda better killing machine out of the deal.

Came to say cell phone. Even as recently as the early 90s, no one on Earth had tech that was close. It would be plenty understandable by extrapolating current tech, but no one would believe it was a contemporary device.

I want another one.” Hell, anything imperfect gets tossed. My dumpster at work is packed full of plastic because assholes won’t take anything even slightly unperfect.

It’s the idiots buying single, shrink wrapped potatoes. It’s the idiots who think a Keurig cup is an ecological disaster, while every other drink they buy wastes 4-5x as much. How about the idiots buying kitchen containers while they toss the, often better, container their food came in?

When I was young, it was the idiot hippies whining about paper bags, like we were chopping down old-growth forests instead of making them from lumber waste (which is sustainable). Congrats assholes, you won, now we’re buried in plastic bags and choking turtles to death.

Until people stop buying so much new shit, reject plastic containers (as much as feasible) and start paying a premium for biodegradable packaging, we’re sunk. Or, better yet, we could force less waste via legislation.

Read an eye-opening article many years ago concerning the last 50 years of Congress giving more and more power to the Executive. It was hard journalism, well sourced and non-partisan, just the facts with dates and events. It was an opinion piece, not straight news, but that was the thrust. And yes, nearly every, if not every Congress has ceded more and more power to the President. So wish I could read that again and post it for y’all to see.

The framers of the Constitution had a clear focus on checking the Executive. They lived in a time of kings, unlimited monarchy, and wanted anything but a new system to setup a new form of tyrant. How they spin in their graves watching the very counter balance they envisioned willingly give up.

This won’t be a welcome comment around here, but I’m hoping for the Supreme Court to dial in the madness. Remember, they are conservative, not partisan, and they owe Trump jack shit. Also, they have ruled against the man and his wishes many times so far. Most would be surprised at the “liberal” decisions they’ve made, and the “conservative” cases they’ve refused to hear. (If someone can tell me how to export my SCOTUS folder from Firefox, in a format that’s easy to pass on, I can provide dozens of examples.)

They are at the very pinnacle of the legal profession and are keen to leave a positive legacy in the law books. OTOH, there are two assholes on the bench so goddamned corrupt it’s appalling. Need I name names? I would gladly trade a conservative whose views I detest against either of those animals.
